I was introduced to Sandalwood when I was a young girl, using my mom’s Skin-so-Soft Sandalwood-scented lotion by Avon. I immediately fell in love with the scent and the love continued to grow as I entered adulthood. Sandalwood became the primary scent that inspired my choices of a few perfumes and aromatherapy, including incense and essential oils. The pleasant aroma of Sandalwood is widely popular among aromatherapy experts/enthusiasts.
What is Sandalwood?
Sandalwood is a class of woods from trees in the genus Santalum. The woods are heavy, yellow, and fine-grained, and unlike many other aromatic woods, they retain their fragrance for decades. Sandalwood oil is extracted from the woods for use using steam distillation. Sandalwood is the second most expensive wood in the world, after African blackwood. Both the wood and the oil produce a distinctive fragrance that has been highly valued for centuries native to India, Hawaii or Australia.
Let’s start with the sweet woody aroma and how it provides relief of emotional/mental distress. The sedative effect promotes relaxation, calmness, concentration, inner vision, and positive thoughts. It improves memory and stimulates your concentration power.
